Discussion:
What happened to Nug Digest?

Since a couple of days I’m getting every reaction to Nug is separate emails.
I used to get them merged in the Nug Digest once or a couple per day.
What happened?

P.s.
I tried the (un)subscribe link in the Nug Digest, https://lists.xojo.com/mailman/listinfo/nug.
An error occurred: Safari can’t open the page “https://lists.xojo.com/mailman/listinfo/nug” because Safari can’t find the sever “lists.xojo.com”.

They changed list servers. So who knows. I don't like this as you no longer get a copy of your own email sent to the list. They did it so we wouldn't s p a m ourselves but I don't think anyone cared and it's not like the list has that much traffic anyhow.

Otherwise you can´t be sure whether it got to the nug or not.

I'm used to archive threads (as defined in ThunderBird) with my own
question and replies of members, and if any, replies from my onw part.

I need to get my own email(s)!!!

Agreed. This new list server simply bites.

And the fact that I can click on 3 unsubscribe links is really problematic. Easy way to remove the wrong person from the list!

When you reply do NOT include that link

Then again, it’s likely Xojo is trying to kill off the list so this works quite well to do that...
There are < 60 people who still contribute on here (less than .5% - yes 1/2 of one percent - of the users on the Web Forums)

I never thought I’d like forums
But the presentation of the new ones are far nicer than the old ones (which I disliked)

What constant stream is that? Aside from this burst of noise about the list change and disappearance of digest mode (and sorry to add to it), if there are 2 or 3 messages a week in the NUG, it's a busy week.

You know, if you're not pleased with Xojo's move, there are free lists out there (freelists.org being one) that would allow you to start a list and manage it the way that you like ...

This whole things sounds like much ado about nothing.

Oh, and the unsubscribe link is at the bottom of each email.

Just one guy's opinion.

Tim

Why oh why Xojo did you do this? There was so little traffic on the NUG. Just come right out and kill it instead of making us suffer the death of a thousand paper cuts…

Unlike the rest of Xojo, like the NUG. Those of us left here are kind of the last survivors. Sure, not much goes in but it’s interesting traffic sometimes. When I do need something I do generally go to the forums. But if Xojo had to move servers, if it’s such a hassle, then why don’t you guys just kill it? That’s my point. Instead you move to some email list sever platform that doesn’t operate like any platform I’ve ever seen. I’ve never been on a list sever that doesn’t send you a copy of your own post (or give you the option of it). I’ve never seen one that includes a different URL to unsubscribe in each email. I’ve never seen one that doesn’t provide a digest option. Who sold you guys a bill of goods on this list sever? Why you moved away from mailman, I have no idea but that’s a great open source platform that most lists use. I’ve been on internet lists for longer that many Xojo users have been alive!

So maybe I turn the tables on Xojo - if you don’t want us on here, then just kill the list! But you guys just decided to make the list a nasty, ugly thing and make it die of attrition. That way there’s no guilt about shutting it down on us.

Personally, the main forum is too busy. I get sucked into the various discussions, lacking the willpower to put it aside. I simply waste time that I cannot afford to waste. Clearly, that is my burden, but the NUG has provided a solution to that. I will hang on, difficult or not. How ever difficult, that is small pain compared to the squandered time on the forum.

I simply waste time that I cannot afford to waste.
Exactly my point as well.
Even if Xojo´s forum sucks less than other forums, it still sucks.

I´m on a dozen mailing-lists.
I check my mail and got all the news. It´s a five-second action.
If I would have to log into a dozen forums instead, that would take a significant amount of time. No way!

Unfortunately Xojo is very bad with emails anyway.
The plaintext-part of their newsletters is just one big blob of text without any linebreaks.
I told them, but that didn´t change anything.

If only I would not like Xojo that much, I would abandon it for their bad usage of mail.

Greetings from Germany,
Bernd Fröhlich

I prefer a “poor” mailing list than no mailing list at all. I’m happy to know they still maintain it and have moved it to a new server. There are brights sides of it, see them as well.

Does this link unsubscribe for the Nug or just unsubscribe for this subject?

That is my problem Markus.
The unsubscribe link is different in every email.
Does this link unsubscribe for the Nug or just unsubscribe for this subject?
I’m confused.
How about click one & see ?

It was Norman's unsubscribe link, so I guess it would have unsubscribed Norman? ;-)

Why is it my responsibility to have to edit a link that Xojo adds out of a message? I'm on my iPhone now. So in order to do that I now have to scroll down and mess with selecting that whole mess of a link.

Nah - I won't and neither will anyone.

Again - make the NUG so painful that everyone stops using it - then quietly shut it down.

Agreed. This new list server simply bites.
And the fact that I can click on 3 unsubscribe links is really problematic. Easy way to remove the wrong person from the list!
When you reply do NOT include that link
Post by Jon Ogden
Then again, it’s likely Xojo is trying to kill off the list so this works quite well to do that...
There are < 60 people who still contribute on here (less than .5% - yes 1/2 of one percent - of the users on the Web Forums)
I never thought I’d like forums
But the presentation of the new ones are far nicer than the old ones (which I disliked)

Don’t then
Doesn’t matter to me

We could simply say “List is dead” but we don’t & haven’t
The reality is there are almost no users here as I said (less than 1/2 of 1 % of users post here)
There are < 60 users who have posted since Jan 1 2017
And about the same number since Jan 1 2016
And we keep maintaining and moving the lists to new servers as we upgrade & improve our internal infrastructure
We could, as we move things, simply say “Nope list won’t move its dead” - but we haven’t

I’d personally never have moved on to the forums EXCEPT that is where everything is now
Product announcements
XDC announcements
Beta’s
MOST (heck - nearly ALL the users)

Since a couple of days I’m getting every reaction to Nug is separate emails.
I used to get them merged in the Nug Digest once or a couple per day.
What happened?
We recently moved our mailing lists to a new server. Because of this there were several changes, like we no longer have the ability to provide digest emails.

That’s odd - it seems to be working for me but I will try in different browsers.
